A classic Kennedy era Yacht by Hatteras!

Picture

THIS IS A NEW 2010 YACHT IN A HISTORIC, CLASSIC 1966 HATTERAS HULL!

A FLAVOR OF THE TIMES...There was a lot going on in 1966 - Lyndon B. Johnson was the President of the United States;  the Viet Nam War was in full swing as was the Civil Rights Movement and the music scene was happening!   The Doors released their debut album; The Beatles were peaking in their popularity, performing their last live concert in Candlestick Park, San Francisco, CA;  they released their “Revolver” album;  John Lennon apologized for a comment about the “Beatles being more popular than Jesus”;  John met Yoko and everyone said “Oh No!”.  Another entertainment mega hit debuted - the original Star Trek series!   The coolest cars were the Ford Mustang, Chevy Corvette and Camaro.  Boating too, was extremely popular with those in high-style motoring the seas in a stylish yacht!  Even without a Kennedy in the White House, there was still a sense of “Camelot” in 1966.

This classic Hatteras 41 Twin Cabin harkens back to that era!  The “Kaley K” retains a sense of style and nostalgia, with many new modernized features.   All operating systems have been updated - for starters, her power has been upgraded with two brand new (2010) Yanmar Turbo 440 H.P. Diesel Engines at a cost of nearly $100,000 which bring her top speed to nearly 30 knots (or 35mph) -- with only 29 hours on each!   These engines are rated to perform well into the 50,000 hour mark, so you have a lifetime of solid performance awaiting you.   Her owner hails from the aviation industry, so the re-wiring and new plumbing systems are top notch.  Her helm/bridge was expanded; The flybridge electronics are impressive: Northstar GPS Chart , depth sounder, and Fishfinder with a four display capability. She has a wet compass and an all new electronic engine display.  This Hatteras 41 Twin Cabin has her original “Bible” or Owners Manual and includes diagrams for all upgrades.

Hatteras designed these Motor Yachts with ‘live aboard” in mind;  you will feel right at home at the dock or on the water!   The Kaley K has retained the best of her “classic” style, with creature comfort upgrades in the Galley that include a stainless steel Whirlpool refrigerator/freezer and a new GE Microwave.  There is also a three-burner stove.   The meticulous owner added an overhead hatch in the salon to allow for more air and light; the chart table was expanded in width; there is an L-shaped couch that pulls out into a queen-sized bed.  Forward berth accommodates two as does the aft “master”, with two twin-sized beds separated by a 9-drawer chest and also includes the yacht-version of a walk in closet!

A recent marine survey puts the replacement cost of the Kaley K at 1.2 million dollars.  The owner would like to sell her this summer; she is offered below her $220K appraisal, at $177,900.  OWNER WANTS TO SELL, SO BRING OFFERS!

Don’t miss out on your opportunity to own a slice of nostalgia that has been meticulously modernized with state of the art engines and electronics!

The HoneyFitz - the Presidential Yacht

Picture
The motor yacht Honey Fitz served five U.S. presidents.

In a June 1932 article in Yachting magazine which was written before the boat became a presidential vessel or was renamed Honey Fitz called the yacht, then named Lenore II a “characteristically American” vehicle, because of its ability to travel for extended distances and reach 24 mph.

The yacht Lenore II was commissioned by Sewell Avery, a wealthy businessman. She was commandeered by the United States when World War II broke out and the ship was and equipped with larger engines, gun turrets and rocket launchers. After the war, President Harry Truman and subsequent presidents used the ship as a transport vessel until Richard Nixon put it up for sale in April 1970.

It was John F. Kennedy who made the classic motor yacht Honey Fitz famous, renaming it after his grandfather, John F. Fitzgerald, known to many as “Honey Fitz.” Kennedy and his family would spend time basking on the boat’s deck, enjoying their time atop the yacht which was considered too small to hold members of the Secret Service, according to documents from the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.
